What is the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop?

The Caroline Bay Rock and Hop is organised by The Hospice South Canterbury and is a Show for all cars, caravans and motorbikes from modern to vintage, from classic to muscle, from Japanese to English this show is for everyone. Along with the show there is a Nostalgia theme that celebrates the best of the 50’s & 60’s. Everyone is encouraged to dress in the 50’s and 60’s style and have a celebration with us.

When is the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop?

The Rock and Hop will be on every third weekend in March, the next event is 15th to the 17th March 2019

Where is the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop?

The Rock and Hop is held in the lovely town of Timaru in South Canterbury, down at the “Jewel in the Crown” Caroline Bay.

What does it cost to come to the Rock and Hop Gala Day?

If you have a vehicle and want to take part in all of the cruises and the Show and Shine Competition the cost is $35 per vehicle. Entry to the Gala Day is by donation to our local Hospice for the general public. This event cost's alot ot put on so please be generous to our Hospice.

Can I apply to bring my car to the Rock and Hop?

Yes – any car can apply to come to the Caroline bay Rock and Hop. Entry is by registration only and is a cost of $35. You can risk it and register on the Gala day but it will cost you $40 and you may miss out as space is limited. All funds raised from this event go directly to Hospice South Canterbury.

So can I just turn up with my car?

Yes but we will only let you in if we still have space -event registration is limited and if you turn up on the Saturday it will cost you $40.

How do I enter my vehicle?

Car, Caravan and bike entrants need to register and pay an entry fee BEFORE they can enter the Rock and Hop. This can be done via the website www.carolinebayrockandhop.co.nz or can be done through contacting Hospice South Canterbury on 03 687 7670

Do I have to wear a motorcylcle helmet at the Caroline Bay Rock and Hop?

Yes on all open roads.

Can I have a trade stall at the Gala Day

Are there rules?

Public safety is paramount to us so in short YES please abide by all traffic rules and no burnouts thanks. Even on roads we have closed to other traffic rules must be abided by at all times. Failure to do so may result in disqualification from judging or even worse expulsion from our event. Have fun but please be safe.

9.00am Gates Open, Marine Parade entrance.
11.00am “Go Geraldine” cruise leaves from the bay
2.00pm Geraldine cruise returns to Timaru
4.00pm Rock and Shop Street party starts, Timaru main st.
6.00pm Main Streets cruise starts.
6.00pm Temuka "Rock and Stop" street party starts
8.00pm Doors open for The SBS Wear Your Parts Preview Party, show starts at 8.30pm,
9.30 Band Starts "The Art Of Cheese".

Timaru Rock and Roll Club has a dance until late.
RSA Rock and Roll Club also has a dance at the RSA until late.

Saturday
7.30am Gates Open at Caroline bay for vehicles to park up off Marine Parade.
9.00am Music starts
10.00am Festival Opens - voting opens -band playing, Stalls and Best dressed registration opens
11.00am Band - The Drama Queens
12noon Wear Your Parts entrants meet behind stage.
12noon All Best Dressed entrants must have checked in before 12.00.
12.30pm Wearable Parts Awards/parade and prize giving.
12.25pm All best dressed entrants need to report to The Bay Hall for Pre Judging
12.30pm Pre judging for best dressed in the bay hall, (Doors Closed).
1.00pm Band - The Drama Queens
1.30pm Best Dressed Entrants meet behind stage area.
1.30pm Voting for Participants and Peoples Choice closes
2.00pm Best Dressed Competition parade and prize giving 
3.00pm Car winners announced - trophies presented. Vehicles paraded in front of stage
3.30pm Band - The Drama Queens
4.00pm Festival finishes.
7.00pm “Rock Your Socks Off” party doors open at the Caroline Bay Hall.

Timaru Rock and Roll Club has a dance until late.
RSA Rock and Roll Club also has a dance at the RSA until late.

Sunday
8.000am Breakfast on the Bay in the Marquee begins.
10.00am Breakfast closes
10.30am Sunday cruise leaves heading to Ashburton, with lots of choices in what to see and do.
